Scoping study prior to the organization of the sub-regional workshop of the Chamber of Mines in Guinea’s Capacity Building Project (RCCMG), development and spread of an interactive map (GIS) and development of a capacity building plan for the Chamber of Mines
Client : UNCDF
Mission:
The Capacity Building Project for the Guinean Chamber of Mines (RCCMG), jointly implemented by UNCDF (United Nations Capital Development Fund) and UNDP (United Nations Development Program), aims to strengthen the impact of local development projects in mining areas. This project plans to operate on the partnership mechanism between the Chamber of Mines and the United Nations System, at different levels, namely: 1) the role of representation of mining companies by the Chamber of Mines; 2) the communication of mining companies through the Chamber of Mines; and 3) the coordination of the actions of mining companies, in terms of local development. Ultimately, the project should contribute to the implementation of a joint local development fund for the mining sector and the United Nations System.
It is within this framework that Insuco was mandated to produce a scoping study prior to the organization of the sub-regional workshop of the RCCMG project while initiating the capacity building of the Guinean Chamber of Mines through the development of an interactive map (GIS) and an adapted training program. This scoping study will thus target the sub-region and, in particular, the countries classified as “Least Developed Countries” with dynamic mining activities as well as South Africa and Ghana.
Results:
The following deliverables were provided to the client:
- An interactive GIS map accompanied by a set of analysis maps;
- A final report GIS including a guide for using the tool and updating the data;
- A scoping regional study on the mining sector and community development issues;
- A programmatic framework in English in the countries studied;
- A training action plan and a post-training support plan;
- A final capacity building report.
