Recent and ongoing projects

Mission:

This risk analysis is a project focused on supporting the decision-making processes of companies interested in investing in the mining sector of Ecuador. Such study was structured as a ranking, evaluating the provinces and cantons of the Western Cordillera of Ecuador based on social and territorial indicators, with the objective of accompanying and facilitating decision-making and the implementation of actions in terms of social management of the mining companies working in the area. Insuco conducted the risk analysis focusing on three factors: i) environmental conditions, ii) territorial conflicts and iii) the maturity of the company in relation to the considered environment. A total of 40 social and territorial indicators were selected.

The project with Anglo American only covered the pilot phase, which consisted of conducting the risk analysis in two provinces of Ecuador: Bolivar and Imbabura. However, Insuco is currently realizing the risk analysis in the 70 cantons of the Western Cordillera of Ecuador, for future use by stakeholders interested in the tool and in the mining sector of Ecuador.

Results:

The products were delivered to the client and included a report detailing the methodology implemented, the analysis and results of the indicators calculated during the pilot phase, a cartographic visualization and interactive maps, which facilitate decision-making.
