Review of the Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) and the Monitoring Plan of the Keyal Khwar Hydroelectric Dam Project
Client: French Development Agency (AFD)
Mission:
Keyal Kwar HHP is one of the most important hydropower Project in Pakistan. This Project has been undergoing feasibility studies since 1998. Numerous studies have been carried out previously in the context of the construction of 3 others projects which have been unfortunately slowed down because of strong floods which appeared in July 2010. The Kewal Khwar project has been therefore classified as a high risk project.
The objective of this study is to rework the initial ESMP from 2011, integrating the results of the recent complementary studies, in order to make it compliant with the requirements of the World Bank’s E&S standards.
Results:
The following deliverables will be provided:
A new ESMMP including:
. The environmental and social mitigation measures of the Project resulting from the ESIA and complementary studies;
. The modalities for implementing these measures (environmental and social management, organization, institutional needs, capacity building needs, etc.);
. An environmental and social monitoring plan setting out specific actions to be implemented during the construction operation and closure phases of the Project.
