Review of the Environmental and Social Impact Study (ESIA) of fishing ports for AFD – Sri Lanka

Mission:
Following a request from the Government of Sri Lanka to AFD for funding in the fisheries sector, a pilot project was developed for the rehabilitation of four fishing ports – Galle; Beruwala; Puranawella; and Kudawella located on the south/southwest coast of the country.
An environmental and social assessment was therefore carried out to identify the impacts of this project and propose mitigation measures.
Insuco’s mission was to review the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment report in order to identify compliance gaps with the national legal framework and the World Bank’s environmental and social standards. The expert then made recommendations to AFD to address these gaps.
The review was conducted remotely.
