Comparative analysis of the legal framework of the Donsos (brotherhood of hunters) with that of the defence and security forces, including nature conservators, in the Prefectures of Siguiri, Kouroussa and Mandiana in Upper Guinea
Client : Association for Cooperation and Research for Development (ACORD)
Mission:
Donsos are traditional hunters in several African countries. Traditionally responsible for supplying villages with bushmeat, their role is also extended to the protection of people and properties, the maintenance of moral order and conflict management. In the context of weak state control, particularly in rural areas, hunters, who are characterised by the possession of firearms, often carry out a security activity, without any legal framework or common training. Faced with the changing role of Donsos, the Association for Cooperation and Research on Development (ACORD) Guinea, is conducting the Project to strengthen the brotherhood of traditional hunters (Donsos) for environmental protection and social cohesion, in order to structure their organisation and to support them in the exercise of their mission. Among the activities of this project, ACORD wishes to structure the regulation of the brotherhood of traditional hunters. The first stage of this project, entrusted to Insuco, consisted in carrying out an analysis of the legal and institutional framework of the Donsos together with that of the defence and security forces.
Results:
Insuco has submitted to the client:
