Mission:

The mission was to provide high-level monitoring and external audit of the Global Alumina Corporation (GAC) mining project’s resettlement action plans between 2022 and 2024. This involved monitoring and supporting the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) teams in implementing RAP activities and reviewing the progress of resettlement, compensation and livelihood restoration activities. The RAP audit missions aimed to verify that the resettlement process had not negatively impacted the living conditions of Project Affected Persons (PAPs) and that the implementation of the RAPs was carried out in compliance with IFC standards for the Boké project in Guinea.

Results:

The following deliverables were provided to the client:

  • 2 missions for the development of 4 Resettlement Action Plans (RAP);
  • 2 missions for the preparation of 2 annual external monitoring and audit reports of PARs;
  • The finalization and consolidation of the framework for land acquisition, compensation and resettlement;
  • Ongoing technical assistance to bring resettlement procedures into line with International Finance Corporation (IFC) compliance.
